A visit to the
Houston Museum of Natural Science was the plan for Friday,
September 26, 2008. My sister and I really wanted to see the
Dinosaur CSI. As fate would have it the opening of Dinosaur
CSI had been postponed due to Hurricane
Ike. I have a strong interest in dinosaurs, especially pertaining
to the extinction of them and their place in the Big Five of
Mass Extinctions.
The exhibit was excellent. It
focuses on the Discovery of the Mummy Leonardo. The displays
and layout of Dinosaur Mummy was well thought out and really
impressed me. Starting out the exhibit is a short video. A
stunning fossilized Ichthyosaur mummy. We talked with the team
that worked with Leonardo about there being five baby fossils
inside the Ichthyosaur! Dr. Robert T. Bakker pointed out a few
of the babies and encouraged my sister and I to find the
others. Steve Mango, from Kodak Industrex, spoke with us about
the exhibit.
Then one moves on to stunning artist rendering of
dinosaurs in their environment, along with studies and history
of dinosaur discoveries. In the middle one finds xrays of a
mummified dinosaur and the dinosaur itself. Then one can view a
volunteer working on fossils and a large amethyst geode at the
exit. There are many interactive displays to really get a
better understanding of dinosaurs and studying them. I loved the exhibit and was thrilled to have
met some of the team that worked on the mummified
Leonardo.
