Diamond Crater State Park I have always loved rocks, so when I saw that there was a state park where one could dig for rocks, I was instantly interested. They say that the area rests on a volcanic area that had produced some diamonds and other precious stones. They apparently churn up the field every now and then again to bring more to the surface. If you look on their website they have the latest finds at the park. This park is really good for kids. With camping, getting to play in the dirt and mud then to play in their really cool pool, its perfect for kiddos. There is also a small cafe onsite and a gift store. I much prefer the Mount Ida area as far as rock hounding, but would consider this if I have kids one day.
